Community college students got a taste of what it is like to be a physician this week at the UC Davis Center for Health and Technology, where they received hands-on clinical training as part of a two-week educational experience provided by AvenueM.

A new program seeks to create a pathway from California community colleges to medical schools. Advocates hope it will lead to a more diverse population of doctors and address acute physician shortages in some parts of the state.

Sacramento State will partner with Cal Poly Humboldt and UC Davis School of Medicine to help prepare community college students for medical careers and encourage them to practice in rural and other areas of California in dire need of physicians.
